Kwara SWAN partners KTM foundation to deliver free medical outreach for members

June 7, 2026

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter under the leadership of Ayodeji Ismail has sealed a partnership with the Khadijat Toyin Musah (KTM) Foundation and has concluded plans to organise a one-day free medical outreach for members of the association.

The medical outreach is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the Taiwo Awoniyi Sports Media Centre, Kwara SWAN secretariat at George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin, beginning from 9am prompt.

Speaking on the development, the Kwara SWAN Chairman described it as a watershed in the history of the association, noting that it will improve the health and wellbeing of sports media professionals.

Ayodeji stated that the medical outreach is in line with the WSID-Four Point Agenda of the current administration, which includes welfare, training and opportunity for members, stakeholders engagement, innovation and creativity, and transformational and inclusive leadership.

"This medical outreach is a watershed in the history of our association and we are very delighted it's happening at this period." — Ayodeji Ismail, Kwara SWAN Chairman

He explained that the need for the medical outreach has become imperative given the workloads and editorial targets placed on each journalist and the impact on their wellbeing.

"Media professionals often forget to prioritise their health status as they seek to meet deadlines and beat editorial targets — so, this medical outreach will provide them a unique opportunity to know the state of their health in respect to the demands of their work."

While stressing that prevention is better than cure, Ayodeji noted that the outreach will also help media professionals to better avoid activities that are inimical to their health through medical check-ups and advice from medical professionals. The Chairman urged all members to seize the opportunity and be part of the exercise, noting that health is wealth.

Medical Screenings

The outreach is expected to cover several medical screenings including the following:

  • Blood pressure checks
  • Blood sugar level testing
  • Weight and height measurement to ascertain the body mass index
  • Vision and hearing screenings
  • Lifestyle and health discussions

KTM Foundation Speaks

In her own reaction, the founder of KTM Foundation, Professor Khadijat Toyin Musah — a Pioneer Professor of Nursing Science at the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa — described the partnership as groundbreaking and visionary.

The Ilorin-born distinguished scholar, who is also a strong promoter of cycling and former North Central representative on the board of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, stated that sports media professionals play an integral role in the development of sports, hence the need for them to be medically fit.

"We are proud to be associated with Kwara SWAN to offer this free medical service. It is what we are known for and our team of medical professionals are also ready to deliver the best during the course of the programme." — Prof. Khadijat Toyin Musah, Founder, KTM Foundation

Professor Musah also formerly chaired the Women and Grassroots Development Committee of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria.
